Long-Stay Intensive Care Unit

The Ward of Log-Stay Intensive Care that commenced its activities as the first ward of hospital is a new modern facility with professional personnel and high-tech equipment. It consists of two sections. One renders health care for the patients who require artificial long-term lung ventilation and the other one for apallic patients with preserved spontaneous breathing activity. Each of the sections has total 20 beds, 10 for the patients who are ventilated for a long period of time (2 single-bed rooms and 4 rooms with two beds), 10 for apallic patients (2 single-bed rooms, 4 rooms with two beds), equipped with the most modern devices.

Our clients are the patients who are stabilised after the critical phase, but one or more vital functions have not been restored. We admit patients from the Wards of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Medicine from all Slovakia and European Union after the fulfilment of some criteria without any limitations, but depending on our available capacity. We admit the patients with the diagnoses such as injuries, disorders of consciousness of infectious and non-infectious etiology, stroke, neuromuscular diseases of advanced stage.

It is the aim of LS ICU to continue with the introduced basic treatment process of patient, to eliminate his dependency on the support of basic life functions (if the character of basic illness allows), everyday intensive therapy and the commencement of training in basic life habits or the continuation of training, such as the ability to communicate, eating habits and excretion. Furthermore, we frequently use the principles of basal stimulation that significantly support and accelerate the overall treatment process.
